Safiyyah (Saf) Syeed is a 22-year-old boxer from Luton who has overcome a difficult battle with an eating disorder to become a leader and innovator in the boxing community.
Boxing has become Saf’s mechanism of self confidence & improvement. A sport that has instilled in her the invaluable lesson of never shying away from a challenge. This was proven when she battled an eating disorder that once threatened to derail her dreams. The journey to recovery was not an easy one, but she never gave up on herself and with the help from professionals, was able to find ways to manage her disorder, allowing a triumphant return to the sport she loves. She is now a role model to thousands of young women who are also struggling with eating disorders.
Outside of the ring Saf has also been the driving force in getting hijabs approved by the British boxing board, an important step in making the sport more inclusive. Her efforts have helped to break down barriers and making the sport more accessible to Muslim women.
Saf is currently working with Freetrain and is now one of the figureheads in the comeback season campaign aimed at encouraging people to get back into sport no matter what is holding them back. The campaign is designed to inspire people to overcome their fears and challenges and to pursue their passions. Saf's story is a powerful demonstration of the importance of never giving up on yourself, no matter how difficult things may seem. As a young, talented boxer and an advocate for inclusion, Saf is a shining example of what can be achieved when you have the determination to be the best version of yourself.
Saf believes that you can overcome the most difficult internal battles & has proven this when she battled and defeated an eating disorder that once threatened to derail her dreams. But she didn't do it alone - she sought help from the best in the business and was able to manage her disorder, making her triumphant return to the ring.
